FEATURED Tomb Raider

Tomb Raider & Game Secrets Book

Jump into a world of amazing adventure with the PlayStation classic TOMB RAIDER. You are the incredible Lara Croft, a gorgeous, intelligent, highly skilled explorer of stunning proportions. With a wide array of stylish and lethal moves at your disposal and a ready arsenal of weapons to employ you’re ready to meet any challenge head on. Seek out the mysterious Scion, investigate creepy, deathtrap filled tombs, and uncover hidden treasures. You’ll have to do battle against angry raptors, snarling wolves, and a towering T-Rex along the way, so get your trigger finger ready. There are also plenty of mind-bending puzzles to put your brain to the test as well. The game secret book will teach you everything you need to know to master this game. The first of the now-famous Tomb Raider games is a must-have for every gaming fan. You are Lara Croft, a tough, beautiful, sophisticated female Indiana Jones–think of a British Demi Moore in a fedora. Lara climbs walls, leaps chasms, and generally defies gravity using impressive gymnastics. All of her actions are intricately modeled to produce the lifelike athleticism that made Tomb Raider–and Lara Croft–famous.

But Lara’s got more than good looks and smooth moves to help her on her globetrotting quest for relics. Like guns. Lots of guns. Lara begins her adventures with her trademark pistols, wielded John Woo-style: one in each hand. She eventually works her way up to Uzis and even adds a handy shotgun to her arsenal, perfect for taking down a troublesome tyrannosaur found in some steamy Tibetan lost world.

Here’s the story: having made a name for herself as a finder of antiquities, Lara is hired by a mysterious woman to find an artifact believed to have come from Atlantis. Lara travels around the world, plumbing the depths of long- or best-forgotten locales. As she discovers clues to the artifact’s whereabouts, she also uncovers the true motivation behind her employer’s search. The intriguing plot is told through gorgeous computer animation movie cutscenes interspersed throughout the game’s episodes.

As you venture to and through various ancient tombs, a host of enemies and puzzles await you. In fact, it is the puzzles that will keep players interested even after the challenge of slaying enemies has passed. Also hidden throughout the game are a number of secret rooms and hidden treasures, unnecessary for completion of the game but adding a level of complexity and replay value.

Being one of the few video game characters to grace mainstream magazine covers, Lara Croft is part of video game history. Ravenous fans have demanded three sequels, with the fourth installment, Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation, due in late 1999–and a live-action movie in the works. And it all started with this game, the original Tomb Raider. –Allen Stewart

For the money, Tomb Raider is the best game you will ever play. No matter how good of a game player you are, controlling Lara Croft as she ventures through different worlds and enviornments while she does back flips, swan dives, and hand-stands is challenging and fun to say the least. Or how about fighting T-Rex while you’re at it…. If you are a serious game player, do yourself a favor and play this game. You will not regret it.

The Original and still the Best., May 4, 2001

Tomb Raider is easily one of the greatest games you could buy for the sony playstation. This game introduced me to the world of 3-D gaming. I remember the first time I played it and being in awe of the graphics and gameplay. The sense of the location’s space and dimension in which you play in was remarkable for it’s time (the sequels have since improved on these features, if not in atmosphere and story). What makes me enjoy this game more than any of the sequels is it’s atmosphere and locales. You the player must guide Lara Croft -archeologist/adventurer extraordinaire, through dark caves, ancient tombs and temples and palaces in search of the fabled Atlantean Scion. Hot on your tail are Natla and her squad of goons who wish to obtain the scion for their own nefarious reasons. Locations include Peru, where you will traverse through the ancient city of Vilcabamba and a lost valley of Dinosaurs, The ancient ruins of Greco-Roman temples and collosseums, an Ancient Egyptian city complete with sphynxes and traps galore, and finally the lost continent of Atlantis inhabited by nightmarish creatures. This is a game in which you can immerse yourself in for days on end. I highly recommend it.

An Outstanding Game Certainly to Become a Classic, June 10, 2002

From the ruins of Rome to the futuristic setting of Atlantis, Tomb Raider takes the gamer through a variety of wonderful worlds. Unlike its sequels, it stays in the tombs and out of other settings. I believe that it is one of the best games ever made, and it certainly is a classic. However, I believe that its sequels in many aspects overshadow it.
The scenery in Tomb Raider is better than most games, although it is mostly cubed and flat. The game play and plot are wonderful, and the graphics and sounds are acceptable. However, the artificial intelligence enemies are less than intelligent, and the gamer is often left feeling underestimated with the ease of some of the puzzles. Laura’s moves are limited, and the weapons supply is less than perfect.
I would recommend this game to any fan of the Tomb Raider series and to the average gamer. However, I do feel that other versions have better qualities. Tomb Raider II offers wonderful AI and is perhaps the best for a gamer seeking combat. Tomb Raider III combines the better aspects of the previous two, and Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation offers the best plot and character mobility. If you are looking to stay in the tombs, or if you are not into puzzles, stick with this game. However, don’t miss out on the other great qualities the Tomb Raider series offers.
