I really enjoyed the original Alan Wake game when it came out on PC. It had a great story and original premise. When I got to the ending though, it left me disappointed. I cried out Nooo! Don’t end like this! Those that have played that game know what I’m talking about. Even the two DLC releases left me hanging. The story ended without satisfactory resolution for me.

Now comes American nightmare. It’s been promoted as a standalone game. As a standalone game, the player might have unanswered questions. As a follow-up to Alan Wake though, it fills in the blanks and provides that resolution the first game was missing.

I enjoyed American Nightmare. While not quite as good overall as the first, it continues the tale and wraps it up nicely. It’s priced about the same as a DLC, which is fair, because it’s comparable to DLC in my opinion. As a continuation of the first, it rounds out the story and provide a satisfying ending. As a standalone game, it’s okay, but one really should play the first one in order to be able to appreciate it.
